Local Inventor’s Journey Capitalizes on Ancient
Knowledge and Helps Millions Stay Healthy
— Supplement helps keep blood sugar and cholesterol normal*† —

Local inventor, entrepreneur, chairman and CEO of Santal Solutions LLC, Dr. Arun K. Chatterji has given the Fox Valley international recognition with the new products he has created. He believes his accomplishments are not solely the result of his efforts, but are a culmination of the support that has surrounded him throughout the years. He explains, “I am truly blessed…it’s been an incredible adventure. This journey would not be possible without the love and encouragement of my family, the invaluable mentorship of Professor J. Datta, the vision of my dear friend and business partner Dennis E. Torkko and the extraordinary and multi-disciplinary research by the scholars from India, the United States and the United Kingdom.”

Located in Neenah, WI, Santal Solutions could literally help millions maintain healthier and more productive lives. Chatterji has created a new Virgin Isolate technology and product—termed OSA™ (Om Santal Adivasi—in honor of the Santal Tribes in India who have used edible Ayurvedic plants as folk medicine for centuries). The OSA™ technology is so unique, it has received five U.S. patents, has two pending patents and two corresponding foreign patents. It brings out the non-toxic, active principles from the different sustainable Ayurvedic plants which are used in Santal Solutions’ novel dietary supplements.

The OSA™ technology invented by Chatterji in 1988 was first announced in 2005 at the 2nd International Diabetes Conference. One of the all-natural products that is created by using this proprietary technology—a dietary supplement called OmSanA®—is designed to help maintain healthy blood sugar and cholesterol levels that are already within the normal range.*†

For the residents of the Fox Valley—home to more than an estimated 17,000 pre-diabetics, who are on the high end of the “normal range” of blood sugar levels—the effects could be enormous.

Chatterji and Torkko formed Ayurvedic-Life International, LLC (AI) in 2002. Ayurvedic-Life International is a Biomedical R&D company specializing in intellectual properties. In 2005, they established Santal Solutions LLC—a wholly-owned subsidiary of AI—which manufactures (under license from AI) and distributes dietary supplements such as OmSanA® to help maintain healthy blood sugar and cholesterol levels*†, StresSanA™ to help promote relaxation* and ImmunoSanA™ to support the immune system*.

In addition to these products, Dr. Chatterji has invented and developed a dietary supplement for Obesity, and is in the process of developing a dietary supplement for Juvenile Obesity—all based on his OSA™ technology with different edible and sustainable Ayurvedic plants. Chatterji decided against using his name for OSA™ technology invention or as the name of the company, Santal Solutions. Instead, he wanted the legacy to extend to the Santal Tribes, who inspired his research.

Thanks to Chatterji’s dietary supplement, OmSanA®, health professionals and scientists are taking notice. In fact, the science behind OmSanA® has been recognized in Diabetes Abstract (Abstract # 2243-PO, Diabetes, a journal of the American Diabetes Association (ADA), June 2007, Volume 56, Supplement 1). The ADA Diabetes Abstract is a peer-reviewed journal. “It is perhaps the first plant-based Ayurvedic compound publication of its kind,” notes Chatterji.

During his professional career, Chatterji has received over 300 patents. He was awarded his doctorate in Chemical Engineering at the age of 23 at Iowa State University. Chatterji always hoped to utilize his training in the life sciences to bring the legacies of Ayurveda and India’s indigenous Santal Tribes to his endocrine research in the United States. His understanding of the Santals’ indigenous pharmacology and Ayurvedic principles were further enhanced by Professor Datta.

Datta was using Gymnema sylvestre leaves - a natural healing plant used by the Santal Tribes for thousands of years - to help maintain his blood sugar level in the normal range when Chatterji met him in 1978. Chatterji was intrigued by the Professor’s use of Gymnema sylvestre, a historic Indian Ayurvedic plant which dates back to 6000 B.C.. This, combined with his knowledge of the Santals formed a connection in his mind. He explained, “It was like pieces from a puzzle I didn’t know I was trying to solve fell into place. I knew that the Santals were able to maintain healthy blood sugar levels. They were fairly healthy and chewed on the leaves of the Gymnema sylvestre plant for medicinal purposes.”

Equipped with this ethno-botanical knowledge, Chatterji and Datta took the first of many trips to the remote villages in India to meet with the Santal Tribe. By 1986, after several years of research, Chatterji reasoned that an edible and nontoxic extract of Gymnema sylvestre could potentially help millions with their blood sugar and cholesterol concerns...he just had to prove it to the rest of the world.

Chatterji began to scrutinize the properties of the Gymnema sylvestre plant and soil chemistry where the plant thrived. In 1988, he invented and developed the OSA™ technology, which is used to capture the most potent parts of the Gymnema sylvestre leaf. OSA™ is the Virgin Isolate extract of the Gymnema sylvestre leaf, which is wild-crafted, all-natural and sustainable. After inventing OSA™ technology, it was “full steam ahead” with cellular-level research, which led to the discovery that taking certain fractions of the Gymnema sylvestre plant extract actually enhanced its bioactivity. Research has shown that OSA™ is an astounding 400 percent more bio-active than competing Gymnema sylvestre products on the market.

From 1988-2002, Chatterji conducted in vitro and in vivo research in the United States and India. Armed with promising results, Chatterji then formed Ayurvedic-Life International with Torkko. Between 2004 and 2008, The King’s College in London (sponsored by Ayurvedic-Life) repeated the cellular-level research, part of which is reported in the American Diabetes Association (ADA) publication. The studies at The King’s College confirmed the research from the United States and India for OmSanA®. In fact, Chatterji remarks, “It was the collective efforts of the scholars in three separate continents—India, the United States and the United Kingdom—that worked together to understand the mechanism of action of the Virgin Isolate OSA™ and helped fine-tune the dietary supplement product OmSanA®.”

OmSanA® comes in 250 mg vegetarian capsules and is available on numerous online sites as well as at Community Pharmacy in Madison, Steger Nutrition, Wellness Essentials, Morton’s Pharmacy, Festival Foods, Walgreens, GNC, and other vitamin retailers.

Chatterji eagerly anticipates the national introduction of the two additional products coming in the spring of 2010—StresSanA™ and ImmunoSanA™. Both StresSanA™ and ImmunoSanA™ are currently being introduced in the Fox Valley.
